The shining of lacquer, the excellence of the raw materials and their ability to be integrated are the dominant features of this collection.
Bertrand Marcelly created the Louis Philippe occasional table in cherry wood, and then came the stylized chair and the XXth century mirror.
Each refined and subtle item created is born
from the essences of wood worthy of a long life.
With loving care, Bertrand Marcelly fashions and transforms them so that
they rebound with pertinence into modernity, combining at the same time
elegance and invention, respect and audacity.
Looking at his creations, one sees that the graft has taken on its
own, the materials and the wooden form have fused as one.
The artist uses these items as a triptich, and bring them up to date under the title “FUSION d'EPOQUES”. So has Bertrand Marcelly taken control of historic architecture and its standards to shows the limits to the age of exact and automatic reproduction and conventions.
"Sublimated Canvas" deals with the challenge of the compatibility of new technology (fabric sublimation) and the memory of art.
A non-figurative vertical canvas anchored in our cultural heritage that
demonstrates the value of the new artistic practices for Bertrand Marcelly.
Here, the creator develops his subject in terms of relativity by extrapolation
and he has created “Toile Sublimée” as a response to the challenge
posed by the compatibility of new technology and the memory of art.
This original creation is made as an echo of "shape after shape the being has taken every shape" Rig Veda.
The artist’s words : Bertrand Marcelly, reflecting on the 65th box in expansion.
"In my artistic world, I use the vigour of my dreams freely and I really think that if there is no Creation everything becomes frozen, everything stops."
"Art is a fact of life, just like
the chessboard, a symbolic drawing of the subject that I have treated.
From its starting point as a horizontal square divided into 64 conventional
black and white boxes, I have emancipated it and given it freedom."
The freedom to live differently, to live on the vertical surface of a timeless
mirror.
Once upright, the matrix of 64 boxes extrapolates in a vast expansive movement
and under the rules of mathematical calculations acquires a 65 box.
This expansion demonstrates the concept of RELATIVITY, in this case of the
SQUARE, which obtains a perfect CIRCULARITY, which heralds the era of new
investigations.
This creation concerns a work of exploration on unity / fusion.
A broken mirror and a smooth mirror placed side by side (continuity / breaking up). The artist has voluntarily broken the half-mirror, using modern mathematics, so that it leaves intact the image of the observer that it reflects. This innovative process of Bertrand Marcelly symbolises this idea of fusioning-unity thanks to a perfect integration of materials and elements with each other. The frame is a passage of diagonally oriented colours. The mirrors are all on the same level, without relief. The visual and tactile sensations of the combination of materials is perfect and without duplicity.
Symbolic work that dynamically shows the historic tradition of wood accepting the graft of new visions and modern technology.
Here, the creator renews himself and innovates. For
the artist, the wood is a piece of history that the world cannot dismiss.
This research allows Bertrand Marcelly to extract his artistic message of
the alliance between ancestral traditions of wood accepting the
graft of new technologies.
Exaltation is a sublime meeting of high technology with the most rigorous traditions of marquetry.
The mirror returns us (in filigree), the chessboard
with squares that are part full and part empty as a sympbolisation of the
present. "Exaltation" is designed to occupy a bi-volumetric space
that allows the mirror (of present time) to lean on its base that reflect
a union-fusion between biological and digital worlds. This graft exists
through the Cherry wood marquetry and the subliminal lacquered squared chessboard
matrix. Thus, it is a perfect demonstration of a non-utopian skill of faultlessly
fusing modern transfer techniques with genuine ligneous materials.
